The Underdeck, a transformative mile-long linear public space due for completion in 2026, will build community, bridge neighborhoods and cultural assets in downtown Miami, and reconnect Overtown to the heart of downtown Miami.

Beginning in the heart of Overtown and extending to Biscayne Boulevard, the Underdeck will be created via the I-395 redesign and will bridge streets in a neighborhood dissected by devastating highway infrastructure of the 1950s and ’60s. Championed by the Underdeck Advisory Board, a community-driven, public-private partnership between volunteer civic and institutional leaders and the City of Miami, the public space will honor the area’s complex history, showcase Miam’s future, and provide crucial public recreation and gathering spaces to residents and tourists alike. Our team is diverse in expertise, culture and race, and represents a cross section of champions for varied local interests, needs and priorities that will have to be considered when finalizing the programmatic approach, design and funding for the Underdeck. Members of our civic team have spent close to four years already ensuring that the Underdeck will not only be iconic and utilized but that it will be inclusive and engaging of all surrounding neighborhoods.
